Evaluation Question 1
In
what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and
conventions of real media products ?
Our media Film product features a young
black boy who tries to cover up the horrible death of his drug abusing mother.
He then becomes homeless. Numb has a prominent sense of truth and represents
the amount of young people homeless in the UK because of difficult home lives.
Our product challenges the medias usual representation of young people in
London as it shows the life of the homeless. However it does conform somewhat
because it shows the issues the ethnic community deal with.
When
deciding on
the genre of the product, we looked at different statistics
too find out which was
the
most popular in
previous years. After research we found that the thriller and horror were
the
most popular
amongst the genres. We
also found from our own personal questionnaires that
those genres were very popular amongst a younger/teenage audience.
Our product is a hybrid of thriller and drama, because of this we knew
it would attract
a large target audience and would bring a sense of reality to the younger
viewers and maybe even be relatable to them.
Existing product : Nocturnal animals
We took
inspiration from the colours of
this opening title.
Before
the
movie begins,
the red colours in
the title tell the audience that the film could be associated with death
because of the red colours
link too blood. By establishing
this at the start I established
It would
draw in the audience more than a simple title sequence . This is a common
feature
in thriller movies therefore this inspired our title sequence.
As
this scene uses
block colours on
a large scale
we can tell the movie
is
a
high
budget production. Although because our movie had
a
low budget we had to use natural lighting and familiar scenes, which then
added to
the realism
that
we were trying to achieve
in our project. From
research
we
found that numerous
physiological
thrillers use this same effect if they have a budget. However in lower budget
movies like
ours low key
natural lighting
has too be used.
